Exhibition Text:
This piece was created to increase my art technique as well as improve myself as an artist. My artistic inspiration in this art piece was Roy Lichtenstein and the art movement he contributed into Pop art. In this piece what I tried to focus on was increasing my skill in creating fine lines, as well as incorporating texture in it. What my piece generally represents the mindset a teen goes through when facing a difficult task, some feel like it's the end of the world and that what decided to show.
Artist Inspiration:
My artist inspiration was Roy Lichtenstein and the Pop art movement was my cultural inspiration. Lichtenstein was criticized a lot about his art work. In his early art work he ranged in style and subject matter, and demonstrated his understanding towards modern art. His technique involved stencils as well as the use of thick lines. For me that is one of the reasons I chose Lichtenstein for his use of thick lines. Another reason is that for me Pop art represents the exaggeration of something, someone, or even a moment in someone's life. The meaning of my piece is an insight into what some teens feel during a hard situation in their lives, they feel like it's the end of the world so I choose pop art and Lichtenstein because I really find it interesting in their methods of interpreting a situation, something, someone in a exaggerating way.

Planning:
At first I was really struggling to come up with ideas but then as I was searching for artist inspiration I came across "Starry Night" by Van Gogh that was the inspiration for this piece but did not fully convince me.
|
After proceeding to look for artistic inspiration and a art movement to base my art after I came across Roy Lichtenstein and the art movement Pop art.
|
Process:
- My first step was to find a Artist Inspiration as well as a movement to base my art piece on
- I then with all the knowledge I acquired from my research I started to do my planning sketches I ended up with total of 4 planning sketches.
- After choosing sketch I really liked I flipped it over and added graphite after I transfered it onto my block
- Then after tracing it i retraced it with a sharpie
- At this point I started to crave: To carve I used two tools, One had a “U” shaped sharp end (to carve out large areas) and the over one had a “V” shaped sharp end ( was used to carve detail)
- When done carving I placed Ink onto a metal palled then used a roller and rolled the ink on the pallet
- After rolling the ink I placed ink onto my Block with my carved drawing
- Then I just placed a piece of carbon copy paper onto my block, after I did that I placed a piece of news print on top of the other piece of paper and used a pressing tool to transfer my ink onto my carbon copy paper.

Reflection:
This project wasn't as easy as it seemed, I went in thinking that this project was going to be simple and that i'll be done in a day but it actually took time. I really struggled figuring out a sketch, at first I wanted to focus on the topic of identity but to be honest I kinda felt like it was being over done. Most of the people I would talk to in art would say that they were going to do the same thing, so I really wanted to focus on something that not a lot of people would focus on. What I focused on was the idea of teen and how they have the capacity to generally over think things about something of minor importance, the quote that kinda was stuck in my head throughout the process of my art piece was “ OMG He didn't like my Picture on Instagram, this is the end of the world”, don't really know why but yeah that was stuck in my head, I kinda feel that it's because that what teens do they over exaggerate and they feel that something with minor importance is the end of their world.
Connecting to the ACT:
- Lichtenstein and the Pop art movement had a great effect towards my art, it really helped me identify what I wanted to do and really how I should do it.
- Overall the author said that Lichtenstein was a great person but was really criticized on his work as well as being accused of copying art from others.
- While researching my inspiration the conclusion I came across was that Pop art and Lichtenstein really focused on the exaggeration of something and the importance of kinda making the point straight forward.
- The central idea in my piece is the mindset of teens and how a minor thing can turn into something that they over exaggerate and make bigger than it is.
- One thing I concluded with while doing my research was that there is something much deeper that Lichtenstein and the pop art movement tries to represent in such a amazing way
