Exhibition text:
This art piece is created by Paper clips spelling out, “ Keep it together”. That phrase is honestly something that I tell myself, whenever i'm stressed or sad. I say it to motivate myself to and to understand that no matter the situation I am in I need to keep it together and move on, I can ether learn from that situation or let it affect my life in a negative way. My artist inspiration for this piece was Farhad Moshiri due to they way he uses everyday items to create a message. A specific art work of his that inspired me was “Right as Rain” that he created using knives.
Artist Inspiration:
My Artist inspiration for this piece is Farhad Moshiri, he is a Iranian artist that gains inspiration from the pop art movement. People would describe him as a person who creates figurative artwork from both pop culture and highbrow imagery. He creates his pieces from everyday objects, as well as luxury objects such as pearls, crystals as much more. He as an artist tries to address flaws of contemporary Iran using traditional forms. I gain inspiration from him do to the way he uses everyday items to create something amazing. I used the art work above for further inspiration in my work because I also wanted to create a message using a everyday objects such as the paper clip, just like he used the knives to create his own message.

Planning:
Sketch number two was meant to represent Innocence as well as represent the quote “ there is always a kid inside us”. I planned to use Chicken wire and create the upper half of a person's body, inside I was going to place old toys. I was also planning to burn the toys a little to represent how once we start to grow older we slowly forget about who we used to be as kids and represent the lost of innocence. |
For the third piece I wanted to demonstrate the effect that words have toward who we are. I was planing to use quotes from books and build the upper half of a body and build a pinata type structure. Creating paper mache with the quotes that I would’ve receive from people.
Process:
1)The first thing I did was look for a artist inspiration, afterwards I started planning what I was going to create.
2)When I decided on what I was going to create I started to look at what kind of fount I was going to use, I decided to used the font “Georgia” on my piece
3) I created a template of each letter using google doc and made sure the letter templates were the size and font I wanted
4) I then traced the template on the board and then place each paper clip one by one using hot glue to maintain it from falling and stay on the board.

Critique:
The way my piece is similar to my artist inspiration and his work was that we both took everyday items and created them to spell out a phrase. A difference was the item we used, he used knives and I used paperclips. Another difference was the fonts we decided to use for our pieces as well as the choose of color, he used knives that had colorful handles but I decided to use plain grey paper Clips.
Experimentation:
Something that I Experimented on was looking for a font as well as looking for the correct paper clips that I was going to use for my piece. Something the I also experimented was how i was going to present my piece the Original plan was to create 3D letters that aren't glued to a board and the audience can walk around and see but since not all the paper clips were not all shaped the same and when using the hot glue it became to messy to accomplish that. Something that I experimented on as well was on the neatest way to place the hot glue and stick the paper clip. I first started off placing the hot glue directly to the board and placing the paperclip but for some reason I felt like that was the messiest approach, so instead I placed the glue directly to the paper clip and placed it on the board one by one.
Reflection:
This piece came with many challenges. It began to get difficult when I had to bend the paper clips to shape the letter I wanted to create such as the “O” and the “G” at first I didn't have anything to shape the paperclip other than my hands, which made it more difficult because the paper clips were made out of a hard plastic. I then was able to find pliers and that made it easier, something else that made this piece difficult was trying my best to keep it clean, I did use hot glue and hot glue it's really difficult to keep it from going everywhere. My piece did have its struggles but also had its successes. I was able to connect my piece well to my artist inspiration as well as create something that contains a clear meaning. For this piece I wanted to represent something that I tell myself often when i'm faced with a difficult situation in a comical yet interesting way which was using paperclips. I wanted to use paper clips because they are something that keep something together which is paper, I used them to represent how I want to keep myself together mentally and emotionally.
ACT Connection:
- The cause effect relationship my piece has to my artist is generally that we both took a everyday item and made it represent a phrase.
- The overall approach was just to explain the kind of artist Farhad was and what inspired him to create his pieces.
- Something that I discovered was that you can really add a deep meaning to a simple everyday items such as a paper clip or knives.
- The central idea was to represent a phase that I say to myself using a everyday item that I felt fit in with the phrase.
- A inference that made while reading was that someone can really add a deep meaning in creating a piece using everyday items such as paper clips and knives.
