This piece was inspired by Melissa lee Johnson. She is a Milwaukee artist that focuses on many mediums in art. I was inspired by two of her art works they are called,”Sugar mountain" as well as "Half baby Half Grownup".I was also inspired by a saying, it goes “there is light at the end of the tunnel”. I decided to create a visual interpretation of the saying and how I view that phrase in my mind. To execute this artwork I did a block print.

My artist inspiration was Melissa Lee Johnson, she is a local Milwaukee artist. I was inspired particularly by two of her drawings and her style of art. Johnson is an illustrator as well as a graphic designer. The majority of her artwork is inspired by by 21st century problems/themes. The two pieces that inspired my piece were, “Sugar mountain” as well as “Half baby Half Grownup”. My personal interpretation of “half baby half grown up”, is generally just a adult who doesn't really want to grow up and is stuck with their childhood tendencies. The second painting (sugar mountains) on the other had is a bit difficult to interpret, what I can infer it represents is the struggle of being a woman. What inspired me from these two art works and the artist is how she can use a repetition of many objects and animals and not lose the view to the main focal point which in these cases are the women in the middle of both pieces. Some people might find the background distracting but over all you edye still travels to the person in the middle. Something that I also tried to convey in my piece that she does in hes is the use of thin lines. Overall in Johnson's art work she uses thin lines to create form and texture which i something that I tried to do in my piece but found it semi difficult since she uses pencil and I was creating a print. It was difficult for me due to the carving tool I was using, which caused my lines to come out thick.

Planning:
For this sketch which ended up being the one I use for my piece. Is meant to represent how people can get stuck in the darkness with out thinking about the positive vibe that could be surrounding them. The way I decided to represent the darkness was a light bulb. When we usually thing of a light bulb we think of darkness and light, in this case its represent darkness also represented by the stars.

Experimentation:
For this piece there really wasn't anywhere I could experiments except for in the printing process. The key to printing is having enough ink in the print in to were it doesn't print out grainy. This process was semi difficult because at times I felt like I was adding too much ink but in reality I wasn't. It took a while to get this correct but after all I’m happy with my end result.
Reflection:
Overall I think a did a good job representing what I wanted to represent in this piece which was how many people can get stuck in a dark mindset and not think of the positivity that surrounds them. I displayed this using symbolism in involving a light bulb in my piece that is a representation of light and darkness. As well as have a clear windy sky as the background.
My Artist inspiration was Melissa Lee Johnson, I feel like I had a semi strong connection to her artwork. Something that could've probably made that connection way stronger and something that I could of changed was demonstrating emotion in the person's face. I feel like if I had demonstrated emotion in my piece just like Johnson did in both her pieces I could of had a stronger connection. Also having different objects in my piece just like she does could have created a strong connection. One thing that I tried to mimic and do in my piece was the creation of thin lines. In Multiple of her pieces she uses thin lines to create form. I tried to create a print with thing lines but at the end the lines didn't come out like I wanted them to. The lines ended up looking thick, If I were to recreate this print in the future I would probably look for a carving tool that can help me achieve just that thin lines. Overall Im pretty happy with the result in my piece but I do see room for improvements.

ACT connection:
- A way that you can tell the cause effect relationship between my work and my artist inspiration is the use of repetition in objects to distract the viewer.
- The overall approach the author had on the artist was to inform the reader about the artist mediums and art style.
- The overall discovery I did was that the idea of “the world” ending is so over done but in different and creative ideas
- The overall theme or idea in my piece was the exaggeration some teens have with a bad experience in their lives.
- The overall inference I came up with was that no matter how overdone a theme/idea is done in art, artist always find creative ways to represent that theme/idea.
