Choice Piece
Exhibition text:
This piece was created from my life experiences and the struggle to understand that I shouldn't be thinking negative thoughts about my body. I wanted to demonstrate to people visually that they should be proud of their bodies and not listen to what society says and its views on the perfect body. My artist inspiration for this piece was Holly-Anne Buck, she bases her art work on life experiences and creates collages using different mediums and techniques.
Artist Inspiration:
She is a artist who loves creating collages. She explains her creation of her collages as “recycling and the sampling current imagery”. The reason I choose her as my artist inspiration was due to her description of her art, She states in an interview about what her art represents. She says, “It’s a collection of moments with friends and lovers. A mashed up love song at level 10 on a Monday night. It glows in the dark. The rainbow lit club inside the forever-happiness-hologram. A landscape of legs and eggs, a box full of wriggling fingers. Blushworthy. It’s naked in the ocean under moonlight punching sharks in the nose. It’s the window licking beauty of surprise… It’s spectacular, banal, beautiful, grotesque, and gloriously iridescent. My collages are vignettes of these moments. My physical out-put of work happens in sporadic, intense bursts but is reflection of this collection of moments”. She inspired me to create this piece because she takes every moment of her life and creates it into a visual representation, I wanted to do the same for my piece and send a message to other girls or anyone in general who aren't comfortable with their bodies and understand that no matter what society says every one beautiful.

Planning:
For my planning I wrote down idea/themes I wanted to focus in my piece after researching my artist inspiration. I also had to choose what technique and media I wanted to do. I choose to do body positivity, and for my technique and media I decided to do, cross hatching, scumbling and stippling. For Media i choose to do all four.

Process:
- I researched for my artist inspiration
- I then picked a theme to base my art on
- When I choose my them I then collected magazines and cut pieces that related to my theme
- I then started placing the pieces and moving them around experimenting and finding the perfect placement for all the pieces
- When I was happy with the placement I then started to glue things down
- Afterwards I drew the collage using around 4 mediums and 5 techniques

Reflection:
This piece was something I have never done before, I've never created a collage and sketched it out. It was interesting using multiple technique while creating this piece. I used pen, pencil, charcoal, and marker, I also used multiple techniques to create texture and shadow. I would consider that my artist connection was a strong one. She is a artist that creates collages about life experiences and uses different techniques as well as mediums to create her artwork. The meaning of the piece was purposely meant to be known as soon as an audience looked at my piece. I didn't want to hide the message of body positivity in my piece, and have people understand that no matter their body shape they shouldn't be ashamed of it.
ACT Connection:
- My artist inspiration was Holly-Anne Buck the cause effect relationship between myself and her was creating a piece where we create a piece based on our life experiences and use different mediums to do so.
- The overall approach that the author of the article that I read of an interview with Holly-Anne demonstrated why she creates collages, the meaning of them, and what she does to create her collages.
- The overall conclusion that I came to was that most artist try their best to demonstrate their life experiences through their art whether or not the public understands what it means.
- The overall idea/theme was body positivity and what woman go through do to what society says.
- The conclusion I made while researching was that art is a amazing way to demonstrate life experiences even if the public doesn't understand or see it in the piece.
