Dry Point
"Stay Quiet"

Artist Inspiration:
My artist inspiration for this piece is Rene Magritte. The general reason why I choose him was because in the majority of art work he places a person or/and object as the main focus. That's what I took from his art work, I choose to make someone the main eye focus of my art work. Just like when you look at some of Rene Magritte art work, your eye focuses on what he choose to make the main focus of his piece. His use of line was something that I also tried incorporating on my piece as well as texture.
Planning:
For this sketch the theme was gender and demonstrating that its okay to be who ever you want and to not let other people make you feel bad that you are who you are. As well as demonstrating that if a guy is comfortable in a dress we shouldn't really judge them for being happy as themselves.
|
For this sketched the theme was the need to be perfect. Now of days there are females and males as well doing all they can to be something that in reality they are not. No one has the perfect body, not one has the perfect nose, mouth, ext.
|
For this final sketch it is meant to represent how a person is being silenced and not able to say what they want weather it be their own opinion, or weather they are to afraid do to them afraid of being judged. I choose this as my final because it generally just coght my attention more and I really just wanted to see how people interpenetrated it.

Process:
- Like every project I first started by researching my artist inspiration and then drawing sketches.
- I placed my plate on my sketches and started carving it out with a sharp tool.
- After carving my image in the plate it was time to print:
- I first soaked my paper in water for 5-8 min
- While the paper was soaking I placed ink on my plate and forced it into the scratches made
- I then removed any extra ink
- I then removed my print from the water and dried it a bit
- When dried I placed the paper on the plate and used the press to transfer the ink onto the paper
Critique:
Something similar that both my art work and Rene's "The Son of man", is making a person the main focus of the piece, making a person the main thing a person sees when they look at the piece. A difference that there is demonstrate is the use of texture and the use of incorporating things in the background. Rene choose to just incorporate something simple like a wall, sky, and body of water. I choose to incorporate something way different. Another difference of course is the medium, he did paint of canvice and I did Dry point printing.
Experimentation:
Something that I really had to experiment on in this project is how much ink I would use on my prints and being able to manage not to take to much ink onto the plate as well as not adding to much ink. I also had to make sure that it was clean and that the ink didn't smudge while pressing it.
Reflection:
Like every art piece I learn something new about myself as a artist and I realize that I want to take risks. I always learn something new about myself and make mistakes along the way but as i said learned from them. This art piece wasn't that hard but I did have my struggles when it came to placing and removing the ink from the plate. I learned that I had to be patient and that the first print I did was going to be perfect, and that it will take a little bit of time to get the right print. As I demonstrated my art piece to my friends the theme of my art piece changed a little, at first it was meant to represent a victim of rape being forced to stay quite about what happened but feed back that I received also made me see that it can also represent how society can silence a person and restrict someone to say what on their mind.
ACT Connection:
- Rene Magritte had a great effect in my piece because his art work "the son of man", really helped me come up with my final product.
- The overall approach that the author had was just to inform me about Rene and how he was as a artist and Rene's techniques.
- The general thing that i came across was that everyone has their own interpretation on art it can be something way different to what the artist was intending.
- The general theme that I was searching up was ideals of society and how they at times silence our youth
