This piece was inspired by Frida Kahlo and her piece “The Two Fridas”. This piece was created on a canvas board and with acrylic paint. This piece is meant to represent my religious beliefs and how I as a catholic belief in the Virgin Mary and have trust in her. Growing up with a really religious mother I was always forced to go to church and was generally forced into my faith, but as I grew up I realized how much religion for me was important and how the Virgin Mary and the church brought piece to my life.
Planning:
For this final sketch I was inspired by frida and her piece and how she cuts ties with her old self but still has something connected to her past. I wanted to do something similar so what I plan on doing was to have myself standing next to the Virgin Mary having a string connected to one another representing the connection of faith and religion.

Process:
1.I first researched a artist inspiration and thought of a theme/topic I wanted to paint about
2.I then started sketching what I wanted my piece to be
3.I then painted the background of my canvas
4. After painting my background I painted the Virgin Mary and any detail she has in her dress
5. I then painted myself and any detail
6.After everything was completed I repainted the black lines in my piece

Experimentation:
For this piece I experimented with skin color. Since I was painting myself I had to create my own skin color. Creating skin color for me is pretty challenging. To overcome these challenges always look back at other projects in where i've done skin color and followed my own steps of go online for references. I also have to be aware that while i'm figuring this process out that a light shade of skin color can dry to turn pretty dark.
Something else that I experimented in is in the creation of creating texture. For this I tried creating texture on the bushes as well as the cloud. The way I created texture was by moving my brush repeatedly over with more and more paint creating texture in my piece.

Reflection:
After reviewing my portfolio I realized that this piece what the second piece that I focused on myself. The rest of my pieces are dromatic themes that teanagers face but this piece was something that had a stronger connection to who I am as a person. Honestly I feel like religion has a great impact on who I am as a person. Ever since I can remember my mom would always took me to church and ever since I can remember I felt like it was a waste of time. My mom also was the person that taught me and told me of the importance of the Virgin Mary in the Catholic church and the importance she has in our lives. At the age of 16 my mom forced me to enter confirmation, in those classes we were forced to go to church and had lessons on how god is almighty. The confirmation course was a 2 year thing, and in those two were I figured out where I stood in my religious belief. I knew that ever since I was little I prayed to the Virgin Mary and God but never really understood why. In those two year I realized that being in church brought me peace. It was honestly the only place where all the problems, stress, anything in general would disappear and it turned into a place where I felt safe and in peace.
For this piece I choose to paint the Virgin Mary she is an important factor in my faith and I felt like it was a great symbol to represent my faith. I choose Frida Kahlo as an artist inspiration because she is known for having symbols in her piece that represent certain events/situations that occurred in her life and made her who she was. I feel like I had a semi strong connection to my artist inspiration. Something that I noticed i'm my pieces is that they all at one point turn into looking like a illustration and look more inspired towards pop art. The movement that Frida's work lies around is surrealism and is inspired primarily by Mexican culture. There's where I feel like the connection became a bit weak.
If I were to change anything in my piece would be to create a more realistic/detailed landscape because I feel like there is were it turned more into a illustration. I feel like if I were to change the landscape to be more realistic and maybe had thinner lines I would of had a stronger connection to Fridas Artwork

ACT Connection:
- The effect my artist inspiration had in my piece was helping me identify what I wanted to have of the main focus point.
- The overall approach the author had on my artist inspiration was to inform the audience on the meaning/representation of the artist piece.
- The general conclusion I had was that many artist have a strong and magnificent way to demonstrate who they are in their art works.
- The general Idea/theme of my research was how to express something that makes someone artistically
- The inference I made was that Frida had a beautiful and amazing way of expressing her emotions, situations, memories in her art work in such a straightforward but discreet manner.
