Organic vs. Industrial
This piece is part of a series that started with a idea I had from different project. The project I did that I based this on was Mixed Media. For that piece I created a phrase with paper clips spelling out “Keep it Together”. My artist inspiration for this piece was Farhad Moshiri. This piece is meant to give a visual of a girl feeling trapped and feeling like there is no way she can move on and tries to keep herself together. A way I meant to represent that was using paper clips to create girl.
Artist Inspiration:
My Artist inspiration for this piece is Farhad Moshiri, he is a Iranian artist that gains inspiration from the pop art movement. People would describe him as a person who creates figurative artwork from both pop culture and highbrow imagery. He creates his pieces from everyday objects, as well as luxury objects such as pearls, crystals as much more. He as an artist tries to address flaws of contemporary Iran using traditional forms. I used his as a artist inspiration because he created something using everyday objects such as the knives and even the glitter. I wanted to incorporate something similar to my piece and use my materials to incorporate emotion just like he did in his piece names “The letter” were he used glitter to create a person who clearly looks devastated.
Planning:
From the beginning I knew that I wanted to use wire as my medium, upon researching artist inspiration I came across Gavin Worth and his work that was the main inspiration for this sketch and the ones below. In his work he demonstrated the woman's body figure in multiple ways. For this sketch the goal was to demonstrate the same thing the woman's physical figures and demonstrated that no matter what society says everyone not just females should be proud of how they appear and not worry about what others think.

For the second sketch is generally meant to represent the the same thing as the first sketch but I wanted to create a woman much curvier than the one above. I wanted to create a piece made out of wire shaping the body of a curvy and generally plus size woman to demonstrate the same concept of body positivity and body acceptance,

Process:
- First step was to look for a artist inspiration in where I could base my art work on
- Second was to start my process sketches and to think about what I wanted to represent in my piece.
- After drawing my sketches I debated whether to create something industrial out of something organic or organic out of something industrial, In this case I choose to create something organic out of something industrial
- I then collected my materials which were primarily just Wire, Pliers, paper clips and a shadow box frame
- I them proceeded to paint the shadow box
- From there I create a template with the design I was going to do, and then traced the out line to a board
- when done with the outline I started to glue the paper clips one by one with hot glue
- Lastly I created detail with the wire such as the facial features and hair.
- I then carefully placed the board in the shadow box
Critique:
Experimentation:
At first I was planning to create a woman made out of wire but after proceeding with the piece the wire was warping as I was trying to complete my piece. I then spoke to my friend and concluded that I was going to start over using different materials and techniques to create a piece that I was pleased with.

Reflection:
This piece was meant to be part of a series, I started of creating the first piece that inspired me to do this one. The first piece a phrase created using paper clips, for this one I decided to use the same material to represent someone who is trapped within her own thought and trying to keep herself together. The shadow box frame is meant to represent the sense of someone being trapped and the paper clips the sense of holding her emotions together. Overall I feel like I had a strong connection with my artist inspiration, I was able to use a everyday item and give it a deeper meaning.
ACT Connection:
- The cause effect relationship that my piece has to my artist inspiration is generally that we both took an everyday item and created a persons shape using those everyday items.
- The overall approach was just to explain the kind of artist Farhad was and what inspired him to create his pieces.
- Something that I discovered was that you can really add a deep meaning to a simple everyday items such as paper clips, wire, knives and glitter.
- The central idea was to create someone that feels trapped with in her own thought and how shes trying her best to keep it together.
- A inference that made while reading was that someone can really add a deep meaning in creating a piece using everyday items such as paper clips and knives.
